The Stag, Sevenoaks
Thursday November 27 to Saturday November 29
A Gilbert and Sullivan classic comic opera gets a makeover with Petts Wood Operatic Society’s sharp new production set in the shady world of politics. Updated to the 1960s, this version is based on the infamous Profumo affair and features Mary Quant inspired fairies and a Lord Chancellor with a magic teddy bear. The original words and music remain though, telling the story of a fairy who was banished from her homeland for the crime of marrying a mortal man. Returning to Fairyland many years later after being pardoned by her Queen, Iolanthe soon finds her half-fairy, half-mortal son Strephon is embroiled in a high profile romantic tangle.
Starts at: 7.45pm daily plus 2.30pm matinee on Saturday
