The recent second running of the Lingfield Park Racing and Beer Festival was hugely successful and enjoyed by nearly double the amount of people who came last year.
Run over both Friday 11th and Saturday 12th November, the days featured some great winter flat racing including two listed races on Saturday.
A big draw for many were the 23 ales that formed the beer festival. Many of them showcased the talents of local breweries from micro breweries to well known names, as well as more nationally recognised names. There were two competitions run in conjunction – one for the brewers of the fastest selling ale and one for the ale voted by the customers as “Favourite of the Festival”. With over 3000 pints on offer between all the ales, the fastest selling was the Sussex-based Dark Star Brewery’s Hophead, whilst the ale with the most number of votes was Surrey Hills’ Albury Ruby (Winter) variety. Congratulations to Mrs Wendy Ward of Twydall, Kent who voted for it and was chosen to win a VIP stay in the Lingfield Park Marriott Hotel & Country Club.
The race goers were entertained with live music from a local band on each day. On Friday ‘A Bag Full of Hats’ based mainly in East Grinstead played to an enthusiastic crowd whilst on Saturday ‘The United Stoats of America’ from Gatwick brought their unique skiffle take on popular songs to an energetic gathering.
Paul Shrimpton, Managing Director of Lingfield Park was pleased with the event. “Everyone who attended Lingfield Park over the past two race meetings has experienced a fantastic atmosphere alongside great racing action and something a little different. The added extra of the Beer Festival gives not only new customers a reason to come racing but also showcases some of the local talent we have for brewing across Surrey, Sussex and Kent. Thank-you to all those who put a lot of effort into making this event work so well. We’ll be looking to repeat it again next year as it’s becoming an eagerly anticipated event in our racing calendar. ”
