Following the announcement of the cancellation of our 2011 Bonfire and Fireworks display, we have been inundated by comments of overwhelming support. The consensus agrees that the complaints we have previously received were from a very small minority and that the vast majority of local residents consider this event a welcome display and one which would be sadly missed if it did not happen.
Therefore, we have taken the decision that the firework display will be reinstated in 2012 and would urge the local community to become involved. We’d like to make it bigger and better than ever, returning to the days of the torchlight parade through the village finishing on the Racecourse but we can’t do it without your help and support. Local schools, community groups and associations are urged to become involved with the night’s activities and help make it a real focus for the community. Let us know your thoughts by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Could the local bonfire society be reformed to offer their expertise in making this a real spectacle?
We’re also looking for a sponsor for the event – a local company who will help us in our quest to put the community at the heart of one of the best organised displays in the area. If you’d like to be involved please call 01342 834 800 and register your interest.
Paul Shrimpton, Managing Director of Lingfield Park agrees “We are amazed at the response that we’ve received and the overwhelming majority of comments have expressed sadness about the possibility of permanently losing this event. We’ve listened to our community and I’m delighted to confirm that we’ll be reinstating this event next year. I would like to thank all of those who have been so supportive of the event in the past and look forward to engaging with the people of Lingfield and Dormansland to make it even bigger and better on its return.”
