Life & Style

We look at some of the best ways to enhance your home and lifestyle this month

Martin Blunos

The Bell in Ticehurst has a secret ingredient: celebrity chef Martin Blunos is working with new head chef Andy Billings to refine the menus and celebrate seasonal local food at its best.

Well known from his TV appearances, Martin held two Michelin stars for over 15 years in his restaurants Lettonie and Blinis. With the help of The Bell’s team, Martin will be treating diners like royalty on Thursday March 10, as he presents the same menu he cooked for The Queen during her Golden Jubilee year.

Rest assured, this charismatic chef will have a story or two to tell. The evening starts at 7pm for 7.30pm and is £45 for three courses.

Specialising in aerial filming using UAV (unmanned aerial vehicles), we are fully equipped for both 4K filming and photography, but also specialise in 3D mapping and aerial thermal imaging; two drone applications we have developed that became commercially feasible as of 2016.

• Fully licensed by the CAA with a PFAW (permission for aerial work)
• Public liability insurance up to £5million
• A highly experienced crew of pilots and camera operators
• State-of-the-art aircrafts varying in size and performance to cater for any application
• Ultra-high resolution cameras and the latest UAV operating systems

Using drones that carry a wide range of cameras to capture images and videos, we are experts in aerial filming, having commissions with commercial business markets and television productions, including the BBC, Channel 4 and Channel 5. 3D MAPPING: We create highly precise, geo-referenced 2D maps and 3D models. For example, measuring stockpile or extraction volumes for earthworks; creating NDVI maps for precision agricultural management; generating contour lines and managing environmental changes of natural resources; producing measurable documentation for construction, cultural heritage, or archaeology site.

These operations are extremely cost-effective in comparison to existing modelling and mapping techniques. THERMAL IMAGING: We carry a high-resolution thermal imaging system, which enables us to provide detailed inspections and analysis of a variety of commercial and domestic applications (wind turbines, residential buildings, industrial buildings, pipelines, crop management and solar panels).

Loch Training

Loch Training’s Hand on Heart Valentine’s Day event led to many people taking advantage of their expertise to learn how to save a life with free CPR training. The event, sponsored by Rentlocally and Loch Training, was aimed at highlighting the importance of learning this vital life skill. Rentlocally has also kindly donated a defibrillator to The Pantiles, and Loch Training is providing free training to ensure that staff from businesses in The Pantiles can help with any emergency.

A big ‘thank you’ also to Sankey’s Champagne and Seafood Bar for hosting the event on Valentine’s Day, and to The Tunbridge Wells Hotel, who will be providing a home for the defibrillator.

Beechwood Sacred Heart

Beechwood Sacred Heart Preparatory School has raised a staggering £2,600.82 for the NSPCC. Sally Stubbs from the NSPCC spoke to KS1 and KS2 on safeguarding and the educational work of the organisation. Following the visit, the prep school launched a sponsored activities event to support the NSPCC’s endeavours. Money was raised through fantastic efforts in the prep community, from decathlons to sponsored scoots around Dunorlan Park.

The £2,600.82 raised by the prep school can be used in a number of ways and contributes to something incredible. £1,600 can help train an NSPCC counsellor; the money could fund three counsellors speaking to three classrooms of primary school children about abuse and where they can find help if they ever need it; £25 could pay for a trained practitioner to deliver one hour of support through the NSPCC helpline to adults worried about a child. Every donation, large or small, really can and will make a difference. The support from Beechwood helps the NSPCC to continue their vital work and offer many children hope for a better future. Congratulations to everyone at Beechwood Sacred Heart Preparatory School for this incredible achievement.

The Bedford Tunbridge Wells

The Bedford has gone from strength to strength since re-launching itself back in March 2013. It is recognised as one of the top traditional ale pubs in Kent, and features microbrewery beers from over 50 different breweries across the region. It boasts 11 real ales and three or four local ciders at any one time, and with regular ‘out-of-area’ beers coming in, there is always something on the bar for the serious ale drinker. All their beers are Cask Marque approved and regularly score 100%. As if that wasn’t enough, landlord Mark Nicholson and his pub manager, cousin Arran Nicholson, have introduced a range of Belgian beers to cater for the more discerning beer aficionado! This stems from their love of Belgian’s finest craft brews.

If it’s food you are interested in, then The Bedford offers a lunchtime menu, seven days a week, between midday and 5pm. A new-look menu is being launched on February 29 which chef Stuart Hayes is incredibly excited about. Featuring some traditional ‘pub grub’ favourites, he is looking to take the food to the next level and assert a reputation of quality, home-cooked food. Full details are included on their website. What now for the future? 2016 sees Mark and Arran take a serious focus on becoming a major player on the ‘entertainment venue’ circuit. Having recently teamed up with Jamie Maguire from Bullet Promotions, a local, up-and-coming promotions company, the pub is in the process of having a small stage installed to host a new range of regular events.
