Chilstone is one of the main sponsors of the Meningitis Now Futures Show Garden. Inspired by the courage shown by meningitis sufferers, many of whom are children or teenagers, the garden aims to show the pathway into young adulthood. Two Cotswold dry stone walls divide the garden, with the right hand wall representing the disease. Unseen to the children approaching, one sculpture begins to pass through, reaching up for help.

The second begins to pass through, but doesn’t appear on the other side, showing the high mortality rate, something the charity really wanted to get over in the finished design. Between the two walls is a tapered gravel path leading to a covered stone seating area, appearing like a small folly.

Chilstone has handcrafted the columns and pediment and donated all the design and stonework to the charity.

The folly represents the strength of the charity, giving both a pause in the children’s lives and an area of refuge.

A bespoke oak seat will bear the Latin motto of the charity with a carved stone tableau above, depicting the gods helping mortal man. The second wall represents recovery, with the fourth sculpture beckoning and encouraging the one before. The last will be older and setting off to run, continuing with her life with the help of Meningitis Now.

This project allows Chilstone to show the quality of their handcrafted architectural stonework on the world stage of this famous flower show. Chilstone will also be involved in two other projects at this show. They have garden ornaments on the Griffin Glass House and Solus Decor stands.

Dale Hill Golf Club

The British Open Speedgolf Championships will take place on August 14 2016, returning to Dale Hill Golf Club in East Sussex for a second year. Dale Hill Hotel and Golf Club general manager Carl Rundgren says: “Speedgolf is an exciting version of the great game, and one that gets the heart racing, blood pumping and takes the sport to new limits and away from its traditionally staid image.” Speedgolf addresses pace of play head on, with this more athletic golf format; it attracts both golfers and runners, or those who seek a fresh fitness challenge. While it is more physically demanding than the traditional golf game, providing a good workout, it is also a lot of fun.

Pam Painter, co-founder of British Speedgolf, explains: “The challenge in Speedgolf is balancing your running pace with your capacity to swiftly and accurately play your shots to get the lowest combined score possible.” Golf’s return to Rio’s Olympic programme after a 112-year absence makes it the perfect time to combine golf and running, but competitors will need to be quick to challenge the current British Open Speedgolf Champion Rob Hogan, who, at the 2015 championship, shot a round of 77 in just 34 minutes and four seconds, giving him a Speedgolf Score of 111:04. Last year saw the introduction of a dedicated women’s category, and British Speedgolf is keen to build on the women’s field at the 2016 event to ensure they get the same recognition as the men.

Sevenoaks Triathlon

Knight Frank Sevenoaks is proud to sponsor the Sevenoaks Triathlon again, one of the first of the season, which is taking place during the morning of Sunday April 17. Starting with an early morning 400-metre swim at the Sevenoaks Leisure Centre, the athletes then embark on a challenging bike ride extending 25km through the beautiful but hilly Kentish countryside, east of Sevenoaks. An 8.4km run through the stunning Knole Park completes the event. Last year, Thomas Wade, a Knight Frank employee, won the event in an excellent time of 1:17:44, which he is hoping to improve upon when he returns to defend his title. He is to be accompanied by three other colleagues, Edward Rook, Tilly Wilson and Kate Horton, who are bravely competing in the race being organised by the Sevenoaks Tri-Club.

This ever-popular event, where the places sell out within hours of entries opening, has now been running for the last 30 years. Martin Brown, race director, provided a bit of historical context: “On July 7 1985, 117 people gathered at the new Sevenoaks Leisure Centre to take part in the first Sevenoaks Triathlon.

Fast-forward to April 19 2015, when the 41st race took place with 385 competitors. There were three competitors that raced in 1985, who were also here again in 2015!” As well as attracting many first-time competitors, the Sevenoaks Triathlon has a special medal for those that complete 10 races: the so-called Evergreens, who come back year after. George Berry, the office head, will be in attendance to present the Knight Frank trophies to the fastest local male and female. We wish every competitor enjoyment and success.
