Go hopping mad at Kent and East Sussex Railway

Go hopping mad at Kent and East Sussex Railway

Throughout the holiday season you can enjoy scenic journeys on the light railway, which weaves through beautiful countryside from Tenterden to Bodiam. This makes a great day out for all the family as you can enjoy the ride and stop off to visit attractions on the route, such as the National Trust property, Bodiam Castle.
On September 8 and 9, families can learn about a vital aspect of the area’s heritage with the annual Hop Pickers Weekend. Bodiam was an important area for hop-picking and every year it would welcome crowds of Londoners who flocked to the countryside, keen to enjoy a late summer working holiday. The event offers visitors the chance to try their hand at hop stripping, see how the workers would have lived and see memorabilia such as period cars, tractors and steam driven road vehicles. Plus there’ll be live entertainment from Morris dancers and you’ll be invited to join a sing-along around a camp fire.
