Penshurst Place celebrates the Diamond Jubilee by announcing a special exhibition of items from Her Majesty The Queen’s Coronation Service

Coronation Exhibition at Penshurst Place

Penshurst Place and Gardens is pleased to announce the opening of a special exhibition of Coronation memorabilia that Viscount De L’Isle has made available for public viewing in celebration of the Diamond Jubilee.

Included amongst the exhibits an original, hard-bound leather Form and Order of Service and two embroidered chairs from the coronation service held at Westminster Abbey, attended by the former Lord and Lady De L’Isle on 2 June 1953.

Also on display will be a collection of formal letters, royal commands and instructions relating to the mourning requirements for King George VI and the coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The exhibition opens on Saturday, 2 June 2012 open from 12 noon – 4pm and will be on display for the rest of the season.

The exhibition is free to visit for garden ticket holders.

Fun activities for families as Penshurst Place travels back in time to the 1950s. Daily craft sessions will be open for children to make union jack placements and other royal-themed items (from 12.00 to 4.00 pm)

Time travel back to the 1950’s and join Fanny, Johnnie and Marjorie as they celebrate the Royal Coronation with interactive tales from aardvark productions – audience participation. Get a unique and entertaining insight into life in Britain in the 1950s during Coronation year

Private tour with Head Gardener *** A perfect early Father’s Day gift!

Get an insider’s view from Cory Furness on how the Penshurst Place team of skilled gardeners manage the historic gardens. Cory will guide a small group on a private tour and talk about the 3 year restoration of the newly opened Jubilee Walk herbaceous border. He will outline his plans for future development of grounds.

Tickets priced at £18 per person, include a cream tea in the stable restaurant following the tour and are available from the gift shop at Penshurst Place.
