One of George Bernard Shaw’s ‘Plays Pleasant’, Arms and The Man (The Chocolate Soldier) is a romantic comedy set during the Serbo-Bulgarian war of 1885. A bedraggled escaping member of the opposing army clambers through the bedroom window of Raina Petkoff. Raina finds this man’s behaviour cowardly and contemptible but impetuously allows him to hide behind the curtains while the room is searched by soldiers and then by her mother and maid.
Directed by Mel Paszkowski, this production is not to be missed which encompasses classic fun with a serious message at its core.
