The great British summer is a notoriously unpredictable affair, so it’s lucky that we’ve got so much to look forward to this year. All eyes will be on London when the 2012 Olympic Games kick off next month and we’re determined to get into the sporting spirit, even if the weather refuses to play ball.
Heroes will rise and fall in the world’s spotlight this July, but who’s your ultimate sporting legend? Choosing one outstanding athlete from a global field is a pretty tough task, but here at So Towers we never shy away from a challenge. After exhaustive research (well, asking around a bit) we realised there was only ever going to be one winner – we award the So Gold Medal to our cover star, charismatic boxing icon Muhammad Ali. But there was some pretty strenuous competition, so our exclusive feature also takes a look at those top sports men and women who almost made it onto the podium.
Most of us only have the chance to admire Olympians from afar, but one local artist has enjoyed a more ‘hands on’ experience. Join us as we visit the Wadhurst studio of a sculptor who has captured the perfect physical form of some revered athletes, in a stunning series of works that will outlive their inspirations.
If all those expertly toned bodies leave you feeling a little inadequate, fear not – we’ve sent our intrepid editor off to experience the good vibrations on offer at a TW private gym, while this month’s fashion feature reveals how you can pull off the elegant 1920’s look that will be dazzling partygoers all summer long. We’ve got all the action from Tunbridge Wells Cricket Club’s first tour of South Africa, plus we hear from the local hockey star who has adapted his sports coaching skills to become a successful management consultant.
Those of you who are more interested in mussels of a different kind are in luck. Our guest local chef offers his tips on cooking these fruits de mer to perfection, while the So foodies give their tastebuds a workout at two more TW restaurants. From the new Ferrari California to gold standard Wealden homes, your favourite local magazine is ahead of the field yet again.
Good luck Team GB!
