REBECCA DOYLE IS THE OWNER OF ISABELLA GRACE BRIDAL BOUTIQUE IN TUNBRIDGE WELLS. HERE, SHE TELLS US WHY SHE LOVES WHERE SHE LIVES…
Where do you live?
How long have you lived there and what made you decide to move there?
Eleven years this December. We moved down from Notting Hill just after we got married. The broody gene kicked in and I didn’t want to raise children in London. We stumbled upon Tunbridge Wells completely by accident and fell in
love with it.
What’s your favourite shop locally?
I would have to say my own really wouldn’t I? Isabella Grace!
Where’s the best place to go for a Sunday stroll?
We have always loved the Eridge Rocks and Nature Reserve. We found it on our first visit to Tunbridge Wells when we were looking at a house to buy. It’s a great place to take the children and the dog, and many lazy Sundays are spent there with a flask of coffee building dens.
The best place to get a cup of coffee?
Hattons! But you can’t just have a coffee there without trying one of their brownies – they’re the best in the world. My children and I are brownie connoisseurs and have tried enough to know!
Where do you take people when they come to visit?
We live near The Pantiles so that’s an essential, especially when it’s a sunny day and we can sit outside, people watch and drink wine. We also love to show people the amazing countryside surrounding the town and are members of both Penshurst and Hever Castle.
What’s the night life like where you live?
It’s pretty busy. My favourite haunt is the Chapel Place gin bar. I’m a massive gin fan and the selection there is never-ending!
Where’s your favourite place to eat locally?
My favourite meal out would be a lazy Sunday lunch. It means I get a day off cooking! Our favourites for that are the The Beacon, the Nevill Crest & Gun in Eridge, The Little Brown Jug in Chiddingstone Causeway and the Kentish Hare in Bidborough. They all offer outstanding food and service and a great ambience.
Are there any nice views nearby?
The views from Bidborough Ridge always blow my mind. We used to live in Bidborough and it’s a view you never tire of.
If you’re looking to relax and unwind, where’s your favourite place to go?
In the summer then it’s my garden, with good friends, a barbecue, great wine and chat. On a cold winter’s day then it would have to be a long lazy lunch by one of the many roaring fires at the Little Brown Jug!
Where’s the best place to meet friends and socialise?
You can’t beat Jazz on The Pantiles. Always a buzzing atmosphere and a guaranteed great night out.
What do you do when you spend a weekend or day off in the local area?
A trip to Rye, lunch at The George or The Gallivant and a walk along Camber Sands. Or a picnic at Hever. The water maze is a huge hit with my twins so we spend a lot of time there in the summer!
Why do you love where you live?
It’s a stunning town and we have made it our home. It’s by far the longest I have ever lived anywhere! You can’t help but fall in love with it and I am lucky enough to be able to work and live here.
