Stormy weather brings the fear factor to Crowborough…

Over the last few days the spring weather has been a little unpredictable, with sudden heavy showers interrupting the sunshine. For many of us here in the Weald, the changeable weather is just a bit inconvenient. But if you live in Crowborough, the rain could result in something less heartwarming than a rainbow.

In the early part of the 20th century, a young girl was discovered drowned in a stream that passed along Alice Bright Lane. The conditions in which she died were particularly stormy, with driving rain and high winds, although it was unclear whether the unfortunate lady had been murdered or died accidentally.

Either way, it appears she has unfinished business at the scene of her death. The story goes that whenever the weather in Crowborough is stormy, her ghost is seen running through the rain towards the spot at which she died…
