As holiday season approaches, personal stylist Catherine De Crevecoeur from www.stylepourmoi.com has these essential packing tips…
How many times have you packed your suitcase and ended up only wearing half the items you actually brought with you on your travels? If you’re someone who packs with a “what-if” contingencies approach then you are most likely to take way more than you actually need. To avoid the unnecessary extra luggage weight and ensure you have the perfect capsule holiday wardrobe, here is a reminder of some packing do’s and don’ts.
THE ‘THREE OF EACH’ RULE
It’s a simple yet effective rule to stick by. Choose three of each item that will form your holiday capsule wardrobe; from dresses, to tops, bottoms, long sleeved layers and shoes. One item being for ‘everyday’, one a ‘statement’ and one that’s ‘in-between’.
Add a few accessories (hat, sunglasses, beach bag) and your job is done. If you have time, choose a large space on the floor to lay out all your planned garments, mixing and matching them to arrange clothing pieces into different outfits. The key here is that everything goes with everything without you having to even think about it once you hit your holiday destination.
ONLY THE BEST
Make sure that all the clothes you include are items you feel comfortable in and really like. You’ll be living in them for a week or longer and deserve to enjoy what you’re wearing.
SHOPPING FOR HOLIDAY CLOTHES
If you’re planning to buy a few holiday pieces, carefully consider how they are going to integrate with your other wardrobe items. It’s also worth investing in something that you can wear outside of the holiday season to ensure you make the most of your spending budget.
Swimwear is a staple – whether you opt for a one piece or a cut-out bikini, ensure you have a couple of good, reliable, chic options.
STEAL HER STYLE
Sporting one of this season’s most flattering silhouettes, Gigi Hadid rocks the runway in a delicately detailed floral dress by Tommy Hilfiger. Emulate this style with this number from Zalando (£275 www.zalando.com), perfect for a special summer occasion.
“IF YOU CAN’T STOP THINKING ABOUT IT… BUY IT.”
Invest in a beautiful print sarong for the holiday which will serve as a skirt or a halterneck top over your swimwear as well as your beach towel.
SPLURGE VS STEAL
A pair of statement sunnies is essential for any holiday wardrobe and this tortoiseshell design by Stella McCartney (£161) can be worn from the city to the beach. Get the look for less with this pair from Le Specs (£43).
