Candace Filbrandt and Chelsea Borrego-O’Callaghan from Next Dimension Gymnastic Academy (NDGA) in Tunbridge Wells, were awarded a gold and silver medal at the Regional Tumbling Competition on Sunday (21st October) at Hollington Gymnastics Club, Hastings.
The pair added to the impressive 34 medals already won this year by the academy’s members. Candace (16) and Chelsea (14) from the Senior Sports Acrobatics Team, competed at National 2 level in the over 13s category and against 16 other gymnasts from the South East. Candace also received a shield for the highest score for National 2 level.
The competition required gymnasts to complete three complex tumbling ‘passes’ at speed, a Straight Pass, formed of somersaults, a Twisting Pass and a Final Pass including both somersaults and twists.
NDGA’s Head Coach, Holly Freeman, said: “Tumbling is an extremely important weapon in an acrobatic gymnasts’ armoury, requiring discipline, accuracy and power. Candace and Chelsea excelled themselves and we are extremely proud of them in securing two further medals for the club.”
