Sevenoaks Medical Centre is in the process of a £1.4m refurbishment and expansion that will bring world-class facilities and Consultants right to the heart of the Sevenoaks community.
Part of the HCA group, the largest private healthcare provider in the world, Sevenoaks Medical Centre has been established at Beadle House in Kent since 2010. The refurbishment will include state of the art equipment and services so people in Sevenoaks, Kent and the surrounding areas can be treated by world-class Consultants, as they would be in London.
The redevelopment of the centre, due to be completed in Summer 2015 will see an expansion of existing services, as well as the addition of new departments to increase the accessibility of key services for the surrounding community. Mikaela Saunders, Centre Manager, comments, “We will have a wide range of new services including Cardiology, Dietetics, ENT and Women’s Health, including a One-Stop Breast Clinic. We will also be expanding our current Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine services with a new state-of-the-art gym. This will be available, not only to our Orthopaedic patients, but to a wide range of other specialities to aid with recovery and wellbeing.”
One of the highlights of the refurbishment will be the new diagnostic equipment and imaging service that will allow patients to be assessed with results on the same day. This means that patients will have rapid access to these facilities without the need to travel to London. It will be possible for tests to be conducted on site with results usually received in a matter of hours. Also installed at Sevenoaks Medical Centre will be the new PACS Imaging system (Picture Archiving and Communication System). The new installation means that all scans and reports will be stored and instantly transmitted throughout the HCA network, so any Specialist or Consultant from any other HCA hospital or Outpatient centre will have instant access to patient scans. This service eliminates the need to manually file, retrieve, or transport film across to other disciplines.
Mikaela Saunders adds, “The stress relief in getting rapid access to your results makes a huge difference to those who are considering investigating symptoms.”
The Women’s Health clinic also includes the One-Stop Breast Clinic, which offers a rapid assessment for diagnosis and treatment for a range of breast disorders including benign conditions and breast cancer.
Same day investigations can be performed if necessary, which includes a fine needle aspiration cytology and core needle biopsy. In addition to this, the service also includes a pre-operative assessment for patients needing surgery; a Specialist Breast Care Nurse is on hand to offer patients support and advice.
With Kent’s established network of sports clubs and activities, Sevenoaks Medical Centres’ Sports Clinic is best equipped for all sorts of injuries or preventative consultations. Its dedicated physiotherapy team along with its Orthopaedic Consultants provides surgical treatment of diseases and injuries affecting the muscles, bones and joints. The aim of the Sports Clinic is to restore lost function in any part of the musculoskeletal system, to allow the patient to return to their former way of life.
Mikaela Saunders concludes, “HCA is committed to providing the highest quality care and the investment into the redevelopment of Sevenoaks Medical Centre reflects this. Patients in the surrounding area will greatly benefit from the accessibility of world-class Consultants within the vicinity of their own community.”
