When British actor Benedict Cumberbatch was Oscar nominated for his portrayal of mathematician Alan Turing in The Imitation Game, it led to a resurgence of interest in the Second World War’s most important breakthrough – the operation to crack the German Enigma code. But the Allies’ codebreaking successes were not exclusively down to the team at famous Bletchley Park.
