Wealden Talking Point

After a lengthy battle with the Ashford Borough Council, a Tenterden pub has had a makeover – painting its exterior from pink to white.

The debate began three years ago when landlord of The Woolpack on Tenterden High Street painted the pub pink, but due to planning restrictions, was ordered to restore it to its original shade.

“The pink colour is not one that would normally be used on historic buildings in this area of Kent and it draws attention to the property, setting it apart from its neighbours in a manner that would not occur with a more neutral shade,” a planning inspector ruled last year.

Despite a petition with more than 500 signatures, and lots of online support from locals in favour of the pink exterior, last month, the work was undertaken, with the Grade II listed hostelry now back to a white hue.
