Wealden residents will be left with fewer banking options, after it was announced that 100 branches of Lloyds Bank will close this year. Both the Hawkhurst and Tenterden divisions are set to close, leaving residents upset over the decision.
Tenterden locals, who in recent years have seen many retail units in the town become empty, have pleaded with Ashford Borough Council to help their high street. Local businesses have also expressed their frustration over the decision, believing that the closure could be detrimental to trade.
“Following a careful review of branches in the local area, Tenterden branch will close on 14 August 2017,” a statement from Lloyds Bank reads. “We have made the difficult decision to close this branch because of the changing way customers choose to bank with us, which has resulted in customers using it less often.”
Following the Tenterden branch’s August closure, the Hawkhurst bank is due to close its doors on September 5.
