Supermarket chain Aldi will be opening a store in Tonbridge on the site of the old Homebase on Cannon Lane.
The site is also set to feature a B&M store offering discounted products, although it is understood that the new outlet will be a dedicated clothing retailer.
Rumours had previously spread about the budget supermarket moving into the Cannon Lane site after early planning applications were filed with Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council.
The development will cost £2.8million, and is being undertaken by contractor Pexhurst over six months. The original Homebase was closed in June 2015.
“Work on our new Tonbridge store is progressing well and we hope to open the store in spring next year,” says an Aldi spokesperson.
“We expect this will create around 50 jobs and will keep the community updated on developments.”
