Tonbridge & Malling talking point

END CREDITS

A Tonbridge cinema has closed after 30 years in business.

Southern Cinema, which was based in the Angel Centre in the town ceased business at the end of November, with its owner Colin Hide citing the cost of new digital equipment as the main reason for its closure.

The cinema had also seen a significant drop in visitors, meaning that for the owner, the venture was no longer financially viable.

Plans to build a new cinema in Tonbridge were announced in 2013 but fell through in 2014, and now cinemagoers will have to travel to Tunbridge Wells or Maidstone.
