The story everyone’s been discussing this month…
The Sevenoaks District Council trophy cabinet could be set for further additions after being shortlisted for the Council of the Year award at the 2017 Local Government Chronicle Awards (LGC). The council was also shortlisted for Entrepreneurial Council of the Year at the awards, which are set to take place on March 8 2017 at Grosvenor House, London. The nominations come after the council has showcased ‘excellence on a shoestring’ as well as demonstrating ‘financial self-sufficiency’ by no longer depending on government grants to deliver services.
It was also recognised that for the past five years, the council had forecast a balanced budget as part of a rolling ten year period. Cllr Peter Fleming, the council leader says: “Being shortlisted for these awards is another proud moment for the council and it recognises us for the hard work we have been doing to become self-sufficient. Whilst becoming self-sufficient isn’t an end in itself, it allows us to protect services that residents care about like weekly waste and recycling collections.”
