Hislops to set hundreds of charity walkers off on 8 mile Tunbridge Wells Moonlight Catwalk

Award winning novelist, Victoria Hislop will be starting off the largest event for Hospice in the Weald, the Moonlight Catwalk on Friday 15th June once more this year along with her husband Have I Got News For You star Ian Hislop. The circular walk will start from Claremont Junior School in Tunbridge Wells at 10pm.

Cranbrook locals, Victoria and Ian Hislop took part in the 8 mile sponsored walk around Tunbridge Wells last year. Victoria says “I am delighted to be starting off the Moonlight Catwalk again for Hospice in the Weald.  Ian and I thoroughly enjoyed the walk last year and it’s great to take part in a fundraising event for a charity which means so much to people in this area.  Ian and I are both looking forward to walking again this year and I know how welcome that mid-journey ice cream will be – and the hot chocolate at the end too!”

Local ice cream makers Taywells are also supporting this Hospice in the Weald event by providing ice cream for all the walkers to spur them on along the eight mile sponsored walk.

Last year, over 700 walkers raised over £40,000 to go towards the £5million the Hospice needs to raise each and every year. By taking part you can help raise even more money this year for Hospice in the Weald so they can continue to provide care for patients across a very wide age range, many of whom are under 40.

Rachel Holweger, Fundraising Director at Hospice in the Weald says “We are thrilled that both Victoria and Ian Hislop are supporting us again this year. We expect this to be a great evening and really need to hit our target of 1000 walkers so encourage people to get involved.  It really is about getting into the spirit of it all,  having fun and raising money for a charity so relevant to so many .  Whether walkers are  walking to remember a loved one or are looking for a challenge, please come and have a great evening at the same time as making a difference to people’s lives’.

The fundraising team at Hospice in the Weald are encouraging groups of friends and colleagues to enter and help make this year the biggest yet. If you haven’t entered already you can enter online at www.hospiceintheweald.org.uk or call Emma Whittington on 01892 820508.
