A Christmas message from the Mayor and Mayoress of Tunbridge Wells

A Christmas message from the Mayor and Mayoress of Tunbridge Wells

2012 will be remembered as a year of celebrations across Britain; The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the London Olympics and some major individual sporting successes in tennis and the Tour De France.
Here in Tunbridge Wells we also celebrated sporting success including paralympic success for Will Bayley in table tennis. In May, Royal Tunbridge Wells welcomed Their Royal Highnesses, The Earl and Countess of Wessex for a visit which brought out the crowds as they walked through the Pantiles. The most memorable day for us was 17 July, as the Olympic Flame came through Tunbridge Wells with the biggest crowds I have ever seen. A fantastic day with everyone in great spirits, even the sun shone on a real community day.
The ice rink is back again, bigger and better than before to get everyone in the Christmas spirit.
Rebecca and I have had a very busy and interesting first half of the civic year, meeting some lovely people working hard in lots of different areas in these challenging times. We are making good progress towards our target of raising £50K for Hospice in The Weald and we look forward to our remaining time in office.
We would like to wish everyone health and happiness for 2013. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Councillor John and Rebecca Smith
Mayor and Mayoress of Tunbridge Wells
