Tunbridge Wells resident, Caroline Beeson, has raised more than £3000, through hosting a charity dinner, in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care. The event was held at the Royal Wells Hotel, on September 21st and offered a wide range of raffle and auction prizes; the favourites being a rug, which was sold for £200, a meal for four, at the Chaser Inn (£140) and Chelsea football tickets (£120). Marie Curie Cancer Care expects, this year, to care for over 31,000 terminally ill patients, in hospices and their own homes; each £20 providing one hour of nursing care.
“The evening went really well and I’m still on ‘cloud nine’!” said Caroline, who works as a senior relationship manager, for the National Westminster bank, “The Fabulous Blooze Band got all of us dancing and the guests looked very fetching in their gangster and moll outfits. The room was provided free of charge and it was particularly special, because the hotel staff had decorated it in a 1920s style.”
Since the death of her grandmother, twenty years ago, Caroline has been keen to help the charity: “ the support and care that Marie Curie nurses gave to all of us was invaluable and I raise money for them, each year, in memory of my Nan, on or around her birthday. Initially, I made Easter nests, which I sold to my work colleagues and sent my husband into the City, with tins of cake that he could sell to his. Last year, I decided to do something on a larger scale; so I organised a 1960s night, at a local hotel; complete with a band, auction and raffle. I invited business professionals in Tunbridge Wells to take tables and it was a great success, so we did the same this year; except with the 1920s theme. It was brilliant and I’m very proud to have been able to make a difference to the lives of the terminally ill and their families.”
