When food is good, word soon gets out. So when The Poet opened in Matfield, promising a fashionable twist on British favourites, naturally we were the first to hear. So, we sent Pippa Park along to see what all the fuss is about…
…Shortly, two tomato and basil amuse-bouche topped with foam arrive in shot glasses to tempt us. My lobster ravioli starter (£11.50) appears minutes later, served with lobster mousse, sea vegetables and lobster oil. Ed has chosen scallops, his favourite, accompanied by suckling of pig, textures of cauliflower, curry oil and coriander cress (£9.50). This warrants two thumbs up and looks so good I insist on trying it…
