TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL VEGETARIAN WEEK THIS MONTH, @GOODFOOD_TW ROUNDS UP A SELECTION OF LOCAL EATERIES THAT MEAT-FREE GOURMETS WON’T WANT TO MISS
Now that we’re finally getting towards the summer months, I can’t wait to start dining al fresco, and enjoy the abundance of fantastic outdoor spaces in the local area.
This month, I’d like to highlight the many eateries that cater for anyone looking to eat less meat and animal products. With National Vegetarian Week taking place this month (May 14 to 20), now is the perfect time to support local restaurants and cafés that excel with their meat-free choices.
While I’m a meat-eater myself, I have many vegan and vegetarian friends who’ve struggled in the past to fi nd exciting and innovative dishes locally.
I hope that you enjoy my picks below – please let me know your thoughts via social media!
THE PLANT BASE, TUNBRIDGE WELLS
Since it opened a little over a year ago, this Camden Road café
has gone from strength to strength. The menu features a whole host of plant-based options (the choco nut rawnola is my personal favourite), and the sweet treats are all vegan and gluten-free.
The ethos at Havet is ‘fresh food, daily’, which is evident in their menu. Every dish that I’ve tried has been delicious, including the multitude of vegan and vegetarian meze options. The Soslu Patlican is a particular highlight!
SOUPER JUICE, TUNBRIDGE WELLS
This vegan Cajun sweet potato salad, served with avocado, walnuts, quinoa and kale at Souper Juice on Monson Road, is easily one of
my go-to dishes in town. Most of the meals on the menu can be customised to make them vegan, so this is the ideal lunch spot if you’re looking to cut back on your meat consumption.
MARLOWE’S, TUNBRIDGE WELLS
Since opening last year, Marlowe’s has consistently served up mouth-watering burgers. While they do serve interesting beef
and chicken burgers, it’s their vegetarian patty (which can also be customised as vegan) that truly excels as one of the best burgers in Tunbridge Wells.
