CAROLINE BAKER IS THE ORGANISER OF THE BIG WRAP IN TENTERDEN. HERE, SHE TELLS US WHY SHE LOVES WHERE SHE LIVES…
Where do you live?
I live in St Michaels, Tenterden about a 15 minute walk from Tenterden High Street with my husband, Blair and seven year old daughter, Mollie.
How long have you lived there and what made you decide to move there?
I was born in Tenterden and although I moved away in my late teens for further education and then work, my family stayed in Tenterden and I gravitated back permanently in 1993 and have never had the desire to live anywhere else since.
What’s your favourite shop locally?
I struggle to single out one particular favourite shop as Tenterden has a few which are always a pleasure to wander round and come up with wonderful birthday gifts.
Where’s the best place to go for a Sunday stroll?
Having lived in Tenterden for a long time there are many lovely walks but we tend to go to one of the nearby villages or towns for a wander or to the coast which we’re lucky enough to only be about 20 minutes’ drive away from.
Where do you take people when they come to visit?
Tenterden High Street never disappoints, but we usually try to coincide visits from family and friends with one of the many local events held in Tenterden.
What’s the night life like where you live?
Again, Tenterden and St Michaels boast a wonderful variety of choice in dining out and pubs, all of which I would rate as good or excellent.
Where’s your favourite place to eat locally?
Occasion and time of day dependant as we have a plethora of marvellous eateries in
the town and nearby but for a super special treat then it is Montalbano Italian as not only do they have a wonderful menu but Salvo and his staff take great care of you.
Are there any nice views nearby?
Many, but the best view of the town is from the top of St Mildred’s church in the centre of the town.
If you’re looking to relax and unwind, where’s your favourite place to go?
We are lucky enough to have a selection of close friends and so to each other’s homes
or a chosen local to meet up.
Where’s the best place to meet friends and socialise?
We have three main haunts where we enjoy meeting up; The William Caxton, The Woolpack and The Fat Ox. Each has a different atmosphere but all equally enjoyable.
What do you do when you spend a weekend or day off in the local area?
Go to events locally with our daughter and usually other friends.
Why do you love where you live?
Having spent about five years away, I gravitated back home when I was 23 and would never consider moving away. Tenterden and St Michaels have grown and changed over the years but they retain a wonderful community spirit and passion.
We enjoy living in a very pretty area with more than enough to do locally, and to have everything you might need on the doorstep or in villages or towns very nearby. It is a place that I am very happy my daughter will grow up in and am keen that she loves and enjoys the town as much as I have and do.
