Love where you Live Tunbridge Wells

JULIET PROCTOR IS THE OWNER OF JULIETS ON TUNBRIDGE WELLS HIGH STREET. HERE, SHE TELLS US WHY SHE LOVES WHERE SHE LIVES…

Where do you live?
Tunbridge Wells.

How long have you lived there and what made you decide to move there?
I’ve lived here for seven years, I moved from London where I’m from to open my restaurant. I decided on Tunbridge Wells as it’s so easy to get to London, the town is beautiful with amazing shops, the people are wonderful and if you want to you can wake up, drive for ten minutes, and be in incredible countryside.

What’s your favourite shop locally?
Depends on what I want to buy! I love Darling and Wild for flowers, Trevor Mottram’s for cookware and if I’m feeling very naughty Changing Rooms for a real clothing treat!

Where’s the best place to go for a Sunday stroll?
Penshurst, its beautiful and the surrounding countryside so lovely, you can walk for hours and not see another person.

The best place to get a cup of coffee?
Juliets of course!

Where do you take people when they come to visit?
Most of my friends visit from London so showing them the countryside is a must; a long walk topped off with a pub stop at the end is usually how it ends up! If everybody is up for an evening out a gig at The Forum never disappoints.
What’s the nightlife like where you live?Buzzing, at the weekend the High Street is jumping!

Where’s your favourite place to eat locally?
After Juliets…There are so many great places in Tunbridge Wells, however I must say I do love going to Il Vesuvio on Camden Road. When you go there you feel part of something, the welcome is so warm and you know they really love what they do, that’s what I hope people feel when they come to Juliets.

Are there any nice views nearby?
The view from the front window of Juliets is my favourite, the High Street is incredible, and it reminds me of Marylebone High Street. Where out of London can you find such a great high street?!

If you’re looking to relax and unwind, where’s your favourite place to go?
It would be going to a friends’ house and sitting in the garden hopefully with the sun shining. I’m so very lucky to have amazing friends with equally amazing gardens! There’s nothing better than fresh air, friends and good food.

What do you do when you spend a weekend or day off in the local area?
Go for breakfast, in my option the best meal to eat out, put my walking boots on, go for a huge walk with my dog Colin, cook supper for friends…bliss.

Why do you love where you live?
That’s an easy one, Tunbridge Wells feels like home. I have lived in lots of towns and cities, but I can honestly say that this is the first time I have lived somewhere where it truly feels like I belong.
