Kent College celebrated its 126th Birthday with guest speaker Dr Ben Goldacre who delivered a fascinating lecture devoted to the criticism of scientific inaccuracy, health scares, pseudoscience and quackery; following his column in The Guardian and book ‘Bad Science’ released in 2008. Both focus on exposing misleading scientific claims from the mass media, consumer product marketing and highlights problems with the pharmaceutical industry and its relationship to medical journals.
Dr Goldacre’s latest book ‘Bad Pharma: How drug companies mislead doctors and harm patients’ was published in September this year.
Dr Goldacre’s engaging and enthusiastic lecture was followed by a Question & Answer session and enjoyed by pupils, parents, staff and Friends of Kent College. The School Magazine team enjoyed the opportunity to interview Dr Goldacre in advance of his lecture and were able to gain his views on a range of subjects from school, to science to Dr Who for the School Magazine.
