Top Awards for Millbrook’s garden display

Millbrook Garden Company are proud to have won a Top Gold Award for their Show Garden in the Flower Marquee at the Kent County Show; and delighted to have also scooped The KCAS Perpetual Challenge Cup for the best Landscape or Garden Display Exhibit.

The Kent County show is a three day event held at Detling in Kent 11,12,13 July.  It brings together all the very best of Kent with animals, crafts, food and horticulture showcasing all “the Garden of England” has to offer.  This is the second year that Millbrook have exhibited at the show but the first year that they have entered a show garden.

Pam Garrard, Visual Display Manager at Millbrook Garden Centre says, “It was a real pleasure to be part of the ‘Detling display team’.  We were able to get some fantastic stock from the Millbrook Nursery, which meant making a display from Cottage plants was comparatively easy and fun to do.  The quality and standard of plants was simply breathtaking, so the display looked amazing and full.  We were delighted to win Top Gold and best Landscape and design awards….not bad for our first attempt!”

Kent County Show organisers said, “We judge all entries in the Flower Show to RHS standard. The ‘Top Gold’ is the highest award you can achieve. The judge (Jim Buttress gardening expert and judge from TV’s Great British Allotment Challenge) will look at the standard of plants, the composition of the display and the use of colour and texture.  The KCAS Perpetual Challenge Cup for the best Landscape or Garden Display Exhibit is an additional award for the Flower Show also judged by Jim Buttress.”

The Millbrook show garden has been re-created at the Millbrook Gravesend Garden Centre to inspire customers and the £175 prize money will be donated to Millbrook’s chosen charity for the year, Chyps Children’s Hospice care. The Millbrook Garden Company Limited is a family-run, independent company and serves the South East of England. It provides customers with a wide range of quality plants, shrubs, trees, furniture, barbecues, gifts and food items. Its friendly and knowledgeable staff are on-hand to give visitors help and advice on all gardening matters. The business consists of three garden centres: Millbrook at Crowborough, East Sussex, which was founded in 1979, Millbrook at Gravesend, Kent, which opened in 1994 and Millbrook at Staplehurst in Marden, Kent, which became part of the family in March 2013.  The company has its own nursery in Crowborough, where it grows a third of the plants sold at all the garden centres in an attempt to reduce plant miles. All the centres have cafés serving hot and cold drinks, snacks, breakfasts and lunches using fresh, seasonal produce some of which is grown at the garden centres. There is ample free parking at all three centres.
